Future Of The NDIS

Future Of The NDIS

The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is a service program started by the Australian government to help people with significant and permanent impairments. This scheme was started to make independent living easier for challenged people.

NDIS provides funds to support the needs that are considered reasonable and necessary by NDIA. These funds allow the participants to enjoy an independent life; they can access assistance with daily living and take part in community activities. This scheme gives them a chance to socialise more and identify their interests and build more life skills that will help them reach their goals.

Where Is NDIS Today?

After eight years into practice, this scheme has garnered a lot of worth and has come to a critical point. They have helped more than 465,000 people over the span of eight years; they developed individualised plans for each individual and provided them with the means to reach their goals. They have made sure that their participants are not left without support, and along the way, they have also learned what the things that work and what don’t work are.

They identified some issues with the way the scheme was being delivered, and those issues were backed up in January 2020. They are keen to work towards their goal and make this program better and more efficient with time. They challenge themselves as they transition into a better and newer system each time.

Future Plans

After managing to stay strong after eight years, NDIS continues to work towards its common goal. The ministers have promised to build a partnership with people who have experience of disability through the Independent Advisory Council and disability representatives. The agency is working to reset the course around Scheme reform. A model will be made to provide consistency and equity in planning outcomes.

NDIS will be progressing work for engagement that will allow them to have robust co-design principles with sector organisations but direct engagement with the community at the same time. They plan to work closely with the sector to make sure that their co-design approach helps them benefit from the lived experience of other people. Their primary focus is to determine that they reach their goal and help the participants meet theirs as well.

Things To Focus On

There are several components that NDIS needs to focus on; they are focused on meeting the standards set by the Participant Service Guarantee. They can make improvements in a lot of other aspects of this scheme like home modifications, assistive technology, supported independent living, etc. These improvements will help the participants in meeting their goals. They are also focused on digital transformation to make their participants’ experience better. The projects to make their app and portal better are already underway. Furthermore, NDIS will focus on;

  1. Participants’ safety
  2. Complex needs
  3. Remote delivery of services
  4. Improved home living options
  5. Support in decision making

They also continue to make better plans in regard to Covid19. They have learned over time and are willing to work to make the experience better for both the participants and service providers.

NDIS has been serving its participants for the last eight years and has come this far in a short period of time. This scheme aims to work together as a team with the agency and its participants to make this program a better experience for everyone. NDIS has proven itself to be sustainable, and it will stay for generations to come. Everyone involved in the scheme works passionately, which has resulted in this becoming a successful and well-accepted program, and it continues to do so.
