The Valedictorian Urologist: Dr. Parikh’s Story

Growing Up:

Dr. Parikh was the valedictorian at Lake Central High School and went on to earn a business degree from Indiana University and minors in both chemistry and biology. He then went on to attend medical school, earning his Doctor of Medicine degree from the IU School of Medicine in Indianapolis as well as a Master of Science degree in Health Services Research from the IU School of Public and Environmental Affairs at IUPUI in Indianapolis.

College Years:

Parikh was born in Schererville, Indiana where he graduated as valedictorian from Lake Central High School. He then attended Indiana University to study business and minors in both chemistry and biology. It was during his undergraduate years that he developed an interest in urology after shadowing a urologist at IU Health Methodist Hospital. After graduating, Dr. Parikh enrolled at the Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine, one of the only schools in the country that has an accredited program for studying urology with a focus on male infertility and sexual medicine.

Medical Degree And Beyond:

I was always interested in science and medicine and wanted to pursue a career that would enable me to help others, said Dr. Parikh. It never occurred to me that I could combine these two interests and become a urologist. Urologists are physicians who specialize in the prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of urological conditions such as kidney stones, urinary tract infections, bladder cancer, erectile dysfunction, infertility problems, prostate cancer, and more.

Personal Life:

Dr. Parikh grew up in Schererville, Indiana, and attended Lake Central High School, where he graduated valedictorian with a 4.6 GPA and was awarded the state title of Indiana Academic State Champion. He went on to Indiana University, where he obtained a business degree from the Kelley School of Business and minors in both chemistry and biology. His first job out of college was as an investment analyst for Goldman Sachs in New York City, where he worked for nearly four years before deciding to pursue his medical degree at Indiana University School of Medicine – Indianapolis Campus.
